Introduction

Receiving a Copyright Claim on your YouTube video can be frustrating, especially after spending hours editing and uploading.

Many creators mistakenly believe they have to delete the video and lose all their views and comments. However, YouTube provides a built-in tool that allows you to swap or mute the copyrighted audio and clear the claim instantly.

The Problem: Content ID & Monetization

A copyright claim occurs when the Content ID system detects copyrighted music in your video. While this usually doesn't result in a channel strike, it often leads to demonetization, where all ad revenue goes to the copyright owner.

The Solution: Using YouTube Studio’s Native Tools

The good news is that you can resolve this directly from your dashboard. In my latest experience, I successfully cleared a claim by following these steps:

1. Identify the Claimed Segment

Navigate to your YouTube Studio, go to the Content tab, and filter by "Copyright". Click on "See Details" to find exactly which part of your video is affected.

2. Use the "Replace Song" Feature

Instead of deleting the video, I used the YouTube Editor to swap the "infringing" track with a royalty-free song from the YouTube Audio Library. This process keeps your video URL, views, and likes intact.

3. Processing and Resolution

Once you save the changes, YouTube begins processing the update. After a short period, the "Copyright Claim" status will change to "None," and your monetization will be restored.
