| professional teardown guide for the Huawei P30 (ELE-L29) — every disassembly step |
Every layer — the glued rear glass, the shielded motherboard, the ribbon cables connecting each component — has to be handled in a precise order and with the right tools, or you risk damaging parts that are expensive or impossible to replace.
Huawei P30 (ELE-L29) disassembly guide: Full Professional Teardown
This guide documents the full disassembly process from the SIM tray to the bare display frame, exactly as performed by an experienced technician, along with the tools required and the mistakes to avoid at each stage.
⚠️ Critical Warning — Read This Before Touching the Phone
This disassembly is not a beginner project. The Huawei P30 is held together with adhesive, delicate flex cables, and small clip-in connectors that are easy to tear or crack under careless handling. A single wrong move can cost you a display, a camera module, or the motherboard itself.
Before attempting this teardown, make sure of the following:
- Experience is essential. Only a technician who has previously worked on similarly-built glass-back smartphones should attempt this. Understanding how much heat, force, and angle each step requires only comes with hands-on repair experience.
- The right tools are non-negotiable. Attempting this with kitchen knives, generic screwdrivers, or a household hairdryer without a proper nozzle significantly increases the risk of cracking the glass back or burning internal components.
- Stay alert at every single step. The connectors, especially the interconnect (FFC) cable linking the mainboard to the sub-board and the coaxial antenna cables, are extremely thin and fragile. Rushing, applying force, or prying from the wrong angle can sever a cable or damage the contact pads permanently — sometimes without any visible sign until the phone fails to power back on.
- Disconnect the battery early. Skipping this step before working near any connector risks a short circuit that can fry the board.
- Never lever the motherboard or sub-board out by force. Both may be secured with hidden latches or hooks; forcing them out is one of the most common causes of accidental damage during this repair.
If you are a hobbyist attempting this for the first time, we strongly recommend practicing on a low-value or already-broken device first, or leaving this job to a certified mobile repair professional. The cost of a mistake here is almost always higher than the cost of a professional repair.
🧰 Tools You'll Need
- SIM ejector tool or a straightened paperclip
- Heat gun, separator machine, or heating mat (a hairdryer can work with a improvised concentrating nozzle)
- Thin plastic opening picks / prying tools (non-metal, to avoid short circuits and scratches)
- Isopropyl alcohol (to help loosen adhesive)
- Phillips PH000 (1.5 mm) precision screwdriver
- Plastic or non-conductive spudger for connectors
- Anti-static mat or wrist strap (recommended)
- Tray or labeled containers to keep the many small screws organized by step
🔩 Full Disassembly Steps
1. Remove the SIM/SD tray
Insert the ejector tool straight into the tray hole until the tray pops out slightly, then pull the SIM/microSD tray free. Insert it gently and evenly — pushing at an angle or too hard can damage the eject mechanism.
2. Heat and separate the back cover
Warm the back panel to roughly 50°C (125°F) using a heat gun, separator machine, or heating mat, which softens the adhesive underneath. Work a thin plastic pick or film gently between the frame and the back glass, starting from the edge farthest from the flex cables and buttons — isopropyl alcohol can help the tool glide through the adhesive.

Never pry with force or a metal lever; this is the step most likely to crack the glass or damage internal parts if rushed.
3. Remove the first set of screws
Using the PH000 Phillips screwdriver, remove the nine screws holding the internal shield/cover in place.
4. Open the internal cover
Carefully pry along the edge to release the clips, then lift off the cover, which also carries the NFC tag.
5. Disconnect the battery
Disconnect the battery connector immediately using a plastic or non-metal tool to avoid short-circuiting the board. The Huawei P30 uses an HB436380ECW battery rated at 3650 mAh — this step should always come before working near any other connector.
6. Remove the second set of screws
Remove the four screws securing the next layer of internal shielding.
7. Remove the third set of screws
Remove the three longer screws nearby.
8. Open the sub-board cover
Pry along the edge and lift off the cover protecting the sub-board (daughterboard).
9. Disconnect the interconnect cable
Carefully disconnect the flexible flat cable (FFC) linking the mainboard to the sub-board, working from the edge of the connector.

Note the printed arrow on the cable, which marks its correct orientation for reassembly. This is one of the most fragile connections in the entire phone — handle it with minimal force.
10. Disconnect the coaxial connectors
Gently pry up the two coaxial antenna cable connectors from the board.
11. Remove the loudspeaker
Disconnect its connector and lift the loudspeaker assembly free.
12. Remove the headphone jack
Disconnect the connector on the motherboard and remove the headphone port assembly.
13. Disconnect the fingerprint sensor
Unplug the fingerprint sensor's connector from the board.
14. Remove the sub-board
Lift out the sub-board, which houses the Micro USB charging port, microphone, speaker contacts, and an antenna unit. It may be glued or clipped to the frame — never insert a tool underneath it to pry, as this risks damaging components hidden below.
15. Remove the front camera
Disconnect its connector on the motherboard and lift out the front-facing camera module.
16. Remove the rear camera assembly
Disconnect the rear triple-camera assembly's connector, along with the nearby coaxial cable connector and the display module connector, then lift the camera unit free.
17. Remove the motherboard
Once every connector and cable is free, lift the motherboard out gently — it should come away without force. If it resists, double-check for a missed screw, clip, or cable before pulling further, since the board may also be secured with hidden latches. Never bend the board or slide a tool underneath it.
18. What remains in the display frame
Once the motherboard is out, the display frame still holds the earpiece speaker, the battery, a coaxial cable, and the vibration motor — each of which can be removed following the same careful, connector-first approach.

❓ Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to remove the battery connector before starting the teardown? Yes — disconnecting the battery as early as possible (right after opening the internal shield covers) is one of the most important safety steps, since it prevents short circuits while you're working near other connectors.
Why is heating the back cover necessary? The rear glass panel is held on with adhesive that needs to soften before it can be safely separated. Skipping this step or applying too little heat is one of the main causes of cracked back glass during disassembly.
Can I skip removing the sub-board carefully and just pull it out? No. The sub-board and motherboard may be secured with hidden latches or hooks in addition to screws and adhesive. Pulling or levering them out by force is one of the most common ways technicians accidentally damage internal components.
Is this a good first-time DIY project? Not recommended. This teardown involves multiple fragile flex cables, adhesive removal, and components that are costly to replace if damaged. It's best performed by, or under the guidance of, someone with prior smartphone repair experience.
